This description covers the history of the first computer to use a neural network, released in 1959. This computer was a revolutionary breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence, as it was the first machine to be able to learn and adapt to new information. It was a major milestone in the development of
Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are models created using machine learning to perform a number of tasks. While the computational implementations of ANNs relate to earlier discoveries in mathematics, their creation was inspired by biological neural circuitry. The first implementation of ANNs was the perceptron by Frank Rosenblatt. Little research was conducted on ANNs in the 1970s and 1980s, with the AAAI calling this period an "AI winter".
