Agapanthus is a genus of plants, the only one in the subfamily Agapanthoideae of the family Amaryllidaceae. The family is in the monocot order Asparagales. The name is derived from Ancient Greek ἀγάπη (agápē), meaning "love", and ἄνθος (ánthos), meaning "flower".
