La Soule (Medieval Football)

La Soule is a traditional medieval football game that originated in France in the Middle Ages. The game is played by two teams of players who attempt to score goals by kicking a ball into the opposing team's goal. The game is played on a large field with two goals at either end.

La soule, later choule, is a traditional team sport that originated in Normandy and Picardy. The ball, called a soule, could be solid or hollow and made of either wood or leather. Leather balls would be filled with hay, bran, horse hair or moss. Sometimes the balls had woolen pompons.
